Lifting

I found a dead bird yesterday when cleaning on top of a shelf in the house. Birds are usually extremely light. Even an eagle with a wingspan on more than two meters weighs less than 4 kilos.

There were only feathers and tiny bones left of the dead bird. I dug a hole in the ground underneath an apple tree outside the house and put the remains in it. I did not put a gravestone on top. It seemed too heavy.

Öppning idag, Fredag!

Välkomna idag! Utställningen öppnar 11 och pågår till 19.

Notes from 7 days

Today during dinner, when I told the others about how the water is getting colder, J. said she was not sure if the place we go to really is an island, even though I call it that, every time I mention it. To make a point of it, she said the broken bridge we walk on to get there is larger than the little rock itself, although we both know that thats not true.
The first day we were here we met a german sailor on our way over there. He was smoking a pipe, and said the island was magic. Then he said that the mushrooms he ate tasted like mushrooms did when he was a child.

The same day a friend sent me an image in my email.

The subjectlne read: 'We hang out at the beach'.

J. wondered if we should pick up pipesmoking.

I looked at the lichen.

Then J. gave me a small flower and I told her that if you hold it in a special way it will make a tiny bang if you smash it towards your palm.

Some nights ago I dreamed that my legs were incredibly nice. I was wearing cut-off jeans and kept looking down at them in amazement. In the morning, when I told the others, M. told me he'd dreamt he was in a wheelchair. Some nights later, A. had a nightmare.

Some background

The rural real estate Vrångsholmen is situated in the west coast of Sweden, 140 km north of Gothenburg and about as far south of Oslo. The house was built 1907 as a reformatory, or a ”rescue institution" (räddningsinstitut), with the stated aim to rescue young children (boys) from alcohol and illegal practices in Gothenburgs poorer neighborhoods. It consists of a 600 m² three-story wooden house with large dormitories, classrooms, canteen, kitchen, gymnasium and an old garden. Today Vrångsholmen is owned by a foundation and governed by a non-profit organization. The house has for some time functioned as a venue for artists to work and exhibit in.

Three Sisters is a naturalistic play written in 1900 by the Russian author and playwright Anton Chekhov. It describes the dissatisfaction and frustration of the Prozorov family, the three sisters (Olga, Masha, and Irina) and their brother Andrei. The sisters are refined and cultivated young women who grew up in urban Moscow; however for the past eleven years they have been living in a provincial town. The play tells a story about the decay of the privileged class in Russia and the search for meaning in the modern world.

The project Three Sisters at Vrångholmen gathers artists from the fields of arts, performing arts and litterature around Chekhovs play and encourages them use it as a common source for inspiration. The idea is not to create a theater set of Three Sisters but to use both the play and the site Vrångsholmen as a material and starting point for each individual's interpretation and artistic approach.
